HOW TO BE FUNNY ON TWITTER FOR DUMMIES
I knew that I wanted my next blog
post to be about social media, but I did not know exactly what I wanted to talk
about. I, of course, got on Twitter to try to avoid doing my work. When I was
on Twitter I read a tweet and LITERALLY laughed out loud. The tweet was wrote
by @itssDarwinn and he said "The first woman to ever birth twins was
probably like "????"". Where did he come up with that?
I do not understand how to be funny in 280 characters. I knew exactly what I wanted to
write about.
HOW TO BE FUNNY ON TWITTER FOR DUMMIES
I found an article on the internet called "How To Be Hilarious On Twitter, From A Writer Who Tweeted Her Way To TV". This article was written by Joe Berkowitz on Fastcompany.com. Click HERE to see the full article. This article has tips about how to be funny on Twitter from Megan Amram (pictrured on the right). She is the writer of the popular TV show, Parks and Recreations.
1. Think Poetically- Her first piece of advice is to not to be "grad schooly" about it. She says "comedy is about breaking expectations of day-to-day-life". She tells us that poetry is similar to that. It is all about making language extraordinary.
2. Bounce Ideas Of Someone- She tells us that she sends every single one of her tweets to her twin brother before putting them on Twitter. I think this would be a good plan but you first have to think of something funny before you can send it to get approved.
3. Steer Clear Of The Most Popular Current Event- She tells us here that you don't want to make the same joke that has been made a 100 times already by other people. I can relate to what she is saying because sometimes when I see a funny tweet I usually see it a couple more times. It makes you think about who the original tweeter actually was.
4. Google Jokes First- I actually laughed when I saw this. Wait, she does not want me to steal tweets off twitter but instead find ones that are not on twitter already? WRONG. She is telling us here that we should google what we are about to tweet because if something similar was already tweeted then it will show up in the results.
5. Prime Time For Twitter Is 11 A.M. PST- This one I found most interesting. How do you know this is the prime time to tweet. She goes on to tell us that this is usually when people are taking a break from work and scrolling on twitter. She says that once you get popular on Twitter and get more followers then you can tweet whenever you want because someone will ALWAYS be up.
6. Wordplay That Wouldn't Work Out Loud Works On Twitter- This is self explanatory, when someone sees your tweet they will be able to see spelling which can sometimes be the whole joke. Also, they can read it multiple times just in case they didn't get it the first time.
7. What's Funny On Twitter Might Work Elsewhere, Though- She is saying that sometimes when she tweets a one-liner it has sometimes became whole blog post. I could go tweet right now and say I wish I was funnier on here. Sorry to all my followers" (told you I wasn't very funny on twitter) then that one tweet could be the base for this whole blog.
Like I said above, there is a whole article that goes more in depth than I did. I hope you enjoyed learning how to be funnier with me.
