The TUBE
As you guys all know, I have been reading the
book "Social Media Marketing: Workbook 2018". This book was written
by Jason McDonald. So far, I have written about the chapters covering Facebook,
LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram. Today, I am going to wrap up this book by
talking about YouTube. I have said this before but if you want to become better
at running your social media or a businesses social media then I would
definitely read this book.
Before I start I would just like to say that the
chapter about YouTube is very comprehensive, so I am just going to summarize a
small portion of the chapter.
YouTube is the type of social media that can be
shared on different social media sites. I am not going to tweet something then
screenshot the tweet and share it on Facebook. However, if I make a YouTube
video I am very likely to tweet the link or put the link on Facebook. This then
gets my followers to go to YouTube to watch my video.
YouTube is one of the most simple social media
sites to use, in my opinion. You post a video and people have four options.
They can share the video, they can like (thumps up) the video, they can comment
on the video or they can subscribe to your channel to see future videos. Don't
get me wrong, there is a lot that goes into making a video, but I think it is
simple to watch and react to videos posted.
The book goes on to talk about how you can make
your videos popular. One of the best ways to make people watch your videos is
to post a "how to" video. If a person doesn't know how to do something
then one of the first things they are going to do is go straight to YouTube and
look it up. They might type it into google but a YouTube video is going to end
up popping up. On YouTube there are many "how to" videos. From how to
fix a tail light to how to potty train your new puppy.
Going viral is hard but it can be done. The book
tells us that you need to have a strong emotional pull behind it. The book
tells us many ways to do this. Two emotions that are strong on YouTube are
humor and sentimentality.
Google Analytics is a tool that you can use to
tell if people are interested in your channel. This will give you insight on
what is working and what is not.
