ON(you)

Going to college is a scary thing. The first week of freshman year was a big struggle but over time I was really able to adjust. Here's how I was able to make the adjustments.

When I first decided I was going to Ohio Northern University I was very excited. I couldn't believe that I got in and was going to attend such a great school. I was on top of the world and felt that way until right before freshman year started.

The week of move in I was so scared and nervous. I had no friends going to college with me. I was going to have to make new friends after having the same friends for pretty much 12 years. How was I going to do this?

I am a firm believer that you get what you put in to something so I knew if I put myself out there, I would be able to make friends.

I joined a sorority. I was able to meet so many new people from this! I not only met everyone within Delta Zeta but I met so many other girls in Greek life. I also met a lot of girls, like me, that were just going through the recruitment process. Some of them did not go to the same sorority as me but I still talk to them a lot. I was really able to connect with many people by putting myself out there and joining a sorority.

I joined the softball team. I knew coming to Ohio Northern that I was going to play softball and I am so glad I did. I was able to meet so many girls over the summer that were either already playing at ONU or were freshman coming to play for the first time like me. I am very grateful that I was able to meet those girls before coming to school because I would actually see familiar faces on campus.

I reached out to people in my class. A lot of people in my freshman classes were freshman just like me. They were equally as new as I was. So, in my classes I tried to talk to the person next to me. It was then easier for me to ask them questions about class and other things going on on campus. I am very glad that I did that. Most of these people I still am friends with today.

Overall, my advice would be just really put yourself out there and get involved!
